Among the joys of being a homeowner is having and looking after a yard. Most people who own homes believe that their lawns as important as any other part of the house. The front yard is the first thing people see when they arrive at your home. And the back yard can be a place for all sorts of fun. Kids can play back there; friends and family can come over for parties and barbeques; folks can even hold a wedding reception in the back yard. Here are a few helpful hints about lawn care.

Using fertilizer is one thing lawns appreciate. Thought and care needs go into the fertilizing process. First, you need to find out what type of grass you have. Then you can make a wise purchase by getting one that is designed for that kind of grass.

Ask anyone who tends lawns and they will probably say that the most annoying part of upkeep is weeds. Crabgrass, dandelions and quack grass grow like mad and can take over the place if not kept in check. You might consider chemicals to kill weeds. If so, be careful that you do not overuse them. If you do use too much, you put plants and grass in danger. Plants and grass can die or grass can become patchy.

Using a grass aerator can have a beneficial effect on your lawn. Not only does it favorably impact your grass, but also helps the underlying soil. It helps allow water and nutrients to reach the roots of the grass.

There is one thing you can do that will not help your yard. And that thing is mowing your yard while it is wet. Grass disease can spread quickly when it is wet. You can do a number on your mower if it gets clogged up. Lastly, you may compact your soil, and thus deprive your grass of nutrient flow.

Keeping your lawn healthy takes time, energy and some expense. But it is very rewarding and thus worth your time efforts. Every time you pull into the driveway, you will see your lovely yard and know you are home.
