One error that many consumers make when buying patio canopies and gazebos is to make an impulse buying purchase before they check around a little bit. Your best option will be made if you have a look at the various types and be sure that the style that you choose will meet your needs. This fast purchase might cost you hundreds of dollars because you end up spending a lot for a high quality style that you just don't require.

First you should consider the material that your awning is made from. Many models come with a top that is literally made from old style canvas. This type looks great and give that beach resort style and feel to your home. But in my opinion, this type of covering just will not last you very many seasons.

A traditional covering can be sprayed with aftermarket UV treatment, but this may only give you a year or two of protection from the sun. The best option is to select a top that is vinyl based that will last for years if taken care of properly.

Do you have a small yard? It may seem like an obvious point, but you should keep this in mind when you make your purchase. Why, because if you spend a lot of money on a fancy awning that won't fit where you need it to, you may just be wasting your money.

The next thing to do is to think about what kind of stormy weather that you have in your part of the world. Are heavy thunderstorms likely, or do you have a lot of sun light? It goes without saying, but the less expensive ones simply don't do well in the wind.

Without a doubt the weather is the key to choosing an option that will meet your needs. Spending several hundred dollars on your favorite sunshade will be money wasted if you don't plan ahead.
